Personally, I would’ve preferred if they went with a more hand-drawn style that modernized the old look of the game. Granted, it’s an art style that won’t be for everybody. From the character models and monsters to the trees and various objects of the game, the visuals of Link’s Awakening have a plasticky vibe that straddles realism and fantasy. This time, the Switch remake opts for a three-dimensional look that mimics the look of kids’ toys. ![]() The biggest change involves the visuals, which are a radical departure from the simpler, sprite-based graphics of the original. At the same time, it’s not afraid to give this old ride a fresh coat of paint and some new rims. Link’s Awakening certainly ascribes to the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach. The music is a perfect reflection of the approach taken by Nintendo on the game as a whole. ![]() It’s like the gaming equivalent of comfort food. Even the soundtrack for the village and various dungeons sound like a souped-up throwback to those games I played as a kid. ![]() This then segways perfectly to the familiar Legend of Zelda theme, now an iconic part of video game lore. It starts with the charming ditty that plays as villager Marin comes across a conked-out Link on the beach’s sandy shores. A big part of the familiar feeling I get from the game involves its wonderfully retro-sounding musical score.
